President Barack Obama speaking during a video address Saturday assured parents that their children will have better schools and teachers under his government and so the children will be at par with children from other countries.
Obama said, "Unless we take action - unless we step up - there are countless children who will never realize their full talent and potential. I don't accept that future for them. And I don't accept that future for the United States of America."
His administration elaborated Saturday on the overhauling plan of the 2002 education law which was the baby of then President George W. Bush. The desired result of this overhauling is going to set right the system that marked over one third of schools as failing and reduction of academic standards in states.
Bush's No Child Left Behind law is set for overhaul which will shift the focus from punishing schools who don't match the standards and focus more on rewarding schools for the progress they make, special focus will be on poor and minority students.
The new system will expect the states to set up standards that will help students get into colleges or careers instead of just getting by their grades which is the focus of present system.
President Obama is planning to send the proposed changes to the law to Congress on Monday.
