People having pacemakers could never undergo Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans earlier. With the development of science and technologies it is now possible for all those people who were restricted to MRI scans due to their pacemakers till now. To make it acceptable everywhere, FDA has also now approved the new pacemakers that are made specially to bear the MRI scan process.

Yesterday it was approved that Medtronic’s REVO MRI pacemaker system with the leads of CapSureFix MRI SureScan. Previously it was known as EnRhythm MRI. This technique is specially built for people need to undergo MRI scan inspite of having pacemaker.

Earlier during MRI scans, the scanner used to detect the pacemakers in the body interrupting the procedures. MRI scan is a very important procedure for people with any head injury. As it includes scan of both the bones and the cavity, it is more advised for better diagnosis. During MRI scan, as the test starts and body goes into the chamber with the head leading, the pacemaker soon gets heated up causing a risk to the body itself. The technology back then was not so developed like today’s time. New inventions are gradually making things easier to deal along with less chances of any risk.

The new device has got some modified wiring inside it that prevents the pacemaker to get less heated, hence helping in the procedure of the MRI scan run smoothly without any interruption. The REVO’s SureScan helps in preparing the pacemaker for the environment required for MRI scan to take place.

After experimenting on 484 patients, finally this new MRI technique has been approved that shows less complications in the MRI report done with pacemaker on
