Paris Fashion News: YSL Autumn/Winter Collection 2010/11

9 March, 2010 A+  A-

The 2010/11 autumn-winter collection of Yves Saint Laurent Fashion House was different. Though dominated mostly by black and white, but a shot of vivid pinks and emeralds here and there was something of a force.

“What’s your favorite color,” a photographer shouted at singer, Kylie Minogue, as she arrived for the YSL show. Her reply was “Pink.” She could have said “blue”. But the collection had one incredible pink dress in satin which prompted Kylie to say in the affirmative. Elsewhere, the mood was mainly sober, basically in black and white, as Pilati presented his autumn/winter collection for the house. “A woman in motion. Dynamic. Contemporary. Aware”, was the main theme behind the show. The collection included, cue for a new suited-and-caped silhouette, which appeared in all fabrics from wool, subverted with synthetic coverings, to cashmere, and PVC.

Headgear, in black, enveloped the models’ heads. Gloves came in black or cobalt, with a “petal”-shaped gauntlet, and round-toed shoes featured a thick sole, separated only by an inch from the heel. The models paraded with colored, feather chokers at the necks, silk chiffon shirts, under black tuxedo jackets, with wide, long trousers. However, the icing on the cake was a jewel-bright finale of cocktail dresses in emerald, pink, iris and sunflower yellow, in duchesse satin, lined with cashmere.

The models wore tall, gold chains dangling , and featured curious pendants, shaped like women in motion. These were based on fashion photographs of the late Yves Saint Laurent’s clothes from the Seventies, which Pilati had cut out from magazines and had made in metal. This was a homage from Stefano Pilati to the late Yves Saint Laurent fashion designer extraordinaire. And most definitely the bright colors.
