Ever since 'The Runaways' Trailer was released, the film has generated quite a buzz and last night The Runaways Premiere was also an indication to the same. By the way there was a lot made into the absence of Robert Pattinson's absence and Taylor Lautner's presence at the premiere. As you know Twilight stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are dating.

Coming back to the current subject, 'The Runaways' movie chronicles the lives of Cherrie Currie (Dakota Fanning), Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) & Lita Ford (Scout Taylor-Compton) and is all about an all girl rock band from the 70’s called The Runaways. First the Band reaches the top of the charts pretty quickly but then it’s their own ambition or rather over ambition, which proves to be the downfall for the Band. Drugs are another reason why the band is unable to reach its full potential. Well, this is a very interesting film. Most definitely.

The Film begins showing that The Runaways as a band is forgotten, and the movie also draws relation with some of the Rock Stars. Joan Jett, and Lita Ford, both of whom became rock goddesses are the thematic representation behind the film or rather an inspiration. And, according to the movie, the main villain as it is projected behind the band's demise was the fact that its lead singer Cherrie Currie had become a drug addict and from then onwards the band takes a hit big time.

And as Dakota Fanning is playing the role of Currie, it’s a known fact that even if the film was not so good, it would be getting lots and lots of media glare. The movie features the former child-star, snorting coke, popping pills, and lounging around which leads to her total deterioration. Now if we critically analyze the film, well, Fanning has been overtly sexualized, but, Fanning is unable to play the role to perfection and as such the director has panned out the events in a synchronized manner. Discomfort aside, Fanning's excellent in the role, and she's truly maturing into an excellent actress. The film however, is being spent too much on Currie, who's definitely the star of the show. Other than Currie, Joan Jett played by Kristen Stewart, and the rest of the band is overlooked as the story drifts into the background midway.

While, Kristen Stewart plays second fiddle to Dakota Fanning but she justifies her role as Joan Jett. Take heart Stewart fans. Had there been more focus on Jett, The Runaways would have been definitely a runaway hit but who knows it might still be. Jett’s arc in the film was just as interesting as Fanning's, and considering Jett didn't have drug problems; she was somewhat not that luring for the filmmakers. One thing that is addressed is Jett's sexuality, as Currie is not able to pull off a love scene.

As good as Stewart and Fanning are, the other show stopper is Michael Shannon a character played by Kim Fowley. Shannon slowly but surely establishes as the lead male character. He's hilarious in the role. Fowley has done an incredible job in imprinting his authority and every scene that he's in is a great one. There is a mixed feeling that The Runaways may be or might not be a big hit but it’s for sure that the audience is going to have a gala time. It is going to compete against the Twilight series third film “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”and the fact remains despite the huge fan following of Twilight series and its stars that many people dislike the Twilight series. So The Runaways may just run its way on the Box Office. The Runaways may not be a perfect film, but still it is an entertaining one, and definitely a flick worth watching.
