Toyota Executives brace themselves for tough questions at first Congressional Hearing Tuesday

23 February, 2010 A+  A-

Toyota Motors landed itself in quite a big soup with continuous quality issues resulting in multiple recalls plaguing the company. This time, the company’s handling of a crisis situation is in question. On Tuesday Toyota executive will face tough questions at the first Congressional hearing. This will be one in many upcoming Toyota hearings.

Akio Toyoda, CEO of the company and grandson of company's founder, has admitted to the blunder on their part by saying that they did not take timely action to counter the situation in recent years. However Toyoda has assured that they are looking into the problems with a fresher spectrum and approach and will start their investigation from scrtch prior to testifying before the US law makers.

The auto maker has been sued by many people on account of their horror stories and sometimes plainly miraculous escapes because of Toyota’s accelerator problems.

House Energy and Commerce Committee's investigative panel chairman Bart Stupak of Michigan, was upset with the company’s handling of the issue and reiterated that floor mats and sticking gas pedals were not the actual cause of the accelerating problems. The actual issue lies in the possibility of electronic problems. The committee alleged that the government and the car manufacturer have failed as public representatives. He also admitted to the blunder on part of his agency to thoroughly investigate Toyota Motors, even after the recall of several models of the 2010 hybrid Prius.

As part of their efforts to defend Toyota, several Toyota dealers from around the U.S. have planned to put across the fact that the auto manufacturer cares about public safety and is a source of employment to large number of people in the district..

James Lentz, president and chief operating Officer of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., will have to testify the company’s allegiance to the public in front of television cameras in a rigorous question and answer session by the lawmakers.
