Turkey Earthquake kills al least 41, destroys homes
At least 41 people have died and over 50 injured in a 6.0 magnitude earthquake that rocked Eastern Turkey early Monday morning 4.32 a.m. local time.
Turkey earthquake has destroyed in many villages all over eastern Turkey. According to Turkey's Kandilli Observatory the Turkey quake was centered near the town of Karakocan and it hit the province of Elazig at 4.32 a.m. local time. The earthquake was also felt in the neighboring provinces of Diyarbakir, Tunceli and Bingol. It caused panic as residents ran out onto the streets. The quake also triggered more than 20 aftershocks.
Relief and rescue efforts were started immediately as rescuers tried to get people out from under the rubble and rushed them to hospitals in ambulances and cars. Turkey's Red Crescent organization has begun distributing aid to residents of affected villages as relatives wait for news of their loved ones.
As Turkey is located on many fault lines, earthquakes are a frequent occurrence in Turkey.
